To encourage everyone to love, hope, and dream. Just remember, we are with you at every phase of your life.
Do not let your difficulties fill you with anxiety. It is only in the darkest nights that stars shine brightly - Ali (RA)
My name is Viquar. I have completed theoretical orientation of various case conceptualizations and interventions while pursuing a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychotherapy. I am also a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, CRPO member.
I wanted to become a counsellor because I strongly feel I have the qualities – compassion, care, patience, empathy, and cultural sensitivity – required to make clients comfortable and respected. My experiences as an educator and administrator have given me opportunities to help my students, parents, and staff members with educational and emotional needs.
I want to create a safe space for my clients where they can show their individuality and share their stories without the fear of being judged. I would love to help people because nothing is more rewarding than helping someone.
I approach sessions using a mindful, client-centred, strength-based, and solution-focused approach. I am influenced by strength bombardment, solution-focused, thought-stopping, reframing, narrative, emotionally focused modalities, and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
I strive to meet clients where they are, adapting and moulding my approach to suit their needs. With this, I see counselling as an interpersonal exploration driven by therapeutic relationships, not theory. My practice is holistic, integrative, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive, emphasizing empowerment and self-determination.
With children and sometimes with teens and adults, I use play therapy. Young children sometimes don't have the vocabulary to articulate emotions and thoughts and may have difficulty identifying emotions.
Through play, they naturally express thoughts and feelings. Through play therapy, they may learn to recognize, identify, and label emotions. They may also learn strategies to manage difficult emotions and behaviours better. I work with children who experience anxiety, behaviour, grief, and attachment issues.
